Right across from the Byzantine tower of Prosforiou in Ouranoupoli, the shop of folklore art, Maria’s Art, offers its guests a huge variety of Athonite objects. As the owner says, Maria Riga, the visitors entering the shop are being charmed by the aromas coming from the thymiams, the chandeliers that decorate the shop, and the hand painted icons by Mount Athos’ monks, depicting Saints.
The variety in athonite products is huge: thymians in various aromas, komposkoimia, crosses for all uses, jewels, and the famous “Virgin’s Mary tear”- unique in the world. Wooden icons, silver, wax, ceramic.
